Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper as well as a singer. Queen Latifah's parents are Lancelot as well as Rita Owens. They were both Police officers. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher who was a teacher in Irvington High School. The couple divorced in the year Latifah was ten years old. Latifah was a student at the Catholic school in Newark, NJ and was educated through her family's Baptist Church. Latifah can be described as an Arabic word which means "delicate and compassionate". The cousin she had gave it to her in the age of eight. Latifah, a 5'10" tall power forward for the team at her high school, was always tall. The number she sang was Home from the musical The Wiz in a high school play. Latifah began beatboxing with the fresh rap ladies. Latifah is among the first members of the Flavor Unit, which was at that time a collective composed of MCs led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the 45 King, made a recording of Queen Latifah's Princess of the Posse rap. He gave it back to Yo! MTV Raps Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music, who worked for Latifah during that time, was impressed by her track. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as the first single by Latifah.
